Arthur Miller’s chilling drama of suspicion, religion, tension and witchcraft had long been a favourite of artistic director Rick ever since GCSE. With St Mary’s church as the venue and it’s proximity to Pendle Hill and the infamous Pendle Witches, could there have been a more perfect opportunity on which to stage such a thrilling drama in the heart of Lancashire?
Period costumes and props (including a poppet and noose) were generously donated from the Dukes Theatre, Lancaster as The Crucible was the first Plough On Sunday show to tour to Runshaw College in Leyland and then to The Grand in Clitheroe.
Fun Fact The Crucible was the first production at St Mary’s to be staged in the round with the performance area shaped like a diamond and the audience sat on all four sides.
